Social Media Marketing: Changing Your Approach

Social media and marketing experts often discuss companies not properly using social media to promote their brands. Businesses use the same thought process for their social media efforts as they do for their traditional marketing; however, social media is an innovative tool to engage with consumers and requires a different approach. Here are some tips to better develop your social media marketing strategies:

Give Consumers a Reason to “Like” You

You can build a Facebook page; you can create a Twitter handle; you can even subscribe to WordPress. If you’re not promoting your social media presence, you will not gain fans, followers, or subscribers. How do you promote your social media presence? Some companies offer discounts for Twitter followers or customers who check-in to the location via Foursquare.

Social Media Gives Everyone A Voice

A social media profile, such as Facebook, allows for people to learn about your brand and discuss their experiences with your company—their positive and negative experiences. In the event a negative comment is posted, be quick to address the issue and try to show your concern and eagerness to remedy the situation.

Content is Key

Consider a social media user to be a customer—if a customer asks you a question, you certainly will not ignore him or her; just the same, when a user interacts with you via social media, give them a timely response. Your social media presence should correlate with your brand’s image, but make sure your social media interaction is more than automated, generic responses.
